Computer Virus Protection Software
I did a search for computer virus protection on Google and the results that came up did not surprise me at all. The big
boys of computer virus protection were right there in the top of the search result, McAfee and Symantec. There was also a link to an AARP
website page entitled “What is a Computer Virus?”
I also did a search at Download.com for computer virus protection. At the top of the page were three sponsored
links. The first sponsored link was for a review site that had reviews for computer virus protection software. The second sponsored
link was for Microsoft updates and the third link was for a company called Agility Networks that offers comprehensive computer security
services.
When I sorted the results at Download.com for computer virus protection software, I found that the AVG antivirus software has
been downloaded more than nine million times. This product has a good rating by both users and CNET editors.
Norton AntiVirus 2005 was the second result in my search for computer virus protection software. It has been downloaded
just fewer than five million times. The user rating for the Norton download is lower than the user rating for the AVG antivirus
software. This may be that the Norton product is only free to try then costs $49.95 to buy while the AVG antivirus software is free.
Out of curiosity, I went to the last piece of software on my list of computer virus protection. This is the one program
that has been downloaded the least. The product is Visual Spotlight 1.7 and has been downloaded only 150 times. The product is free
to try and $10 to buy. The review by CNET editors clearly discouraged its use.
CNET editors have also reviewed the Omniquad Total Security 2005 2.0.3 computer virus protection software. They said that
this product doesn't perform as competently as other online privacy applications. This software is free to try and $29.99 to buy.
